What does 'VC' mean when it appears in a METAR, as in 'VCTS'?
- A.The phenomenon is in the vicinity of the airport
- B.The phenomenon has very calm winds
- C.Visibility is changing rapidly
Correct answer
A. The phenomenon is in the vicinity of the airport
Why
VC stands for vicinity, generally the area near the airport rather than directly over the station. VCTS therefore means thunderstorms are nearby but not necessarily overhead.
